COPENHAGEN - Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen has resigned in preparation for taking over as leader of NATO in August.
He handed his resignation to Queen Margrethe today, a day after NATO members chose him to replace Jaap de Hoop Scheffer as head of the alliance when the Dutchman's tenure ends.
Finance Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen is widely expected to replace the 56-year-old centre-right leader as the country's prime minister.
The change is unlikely to change government politics because the two-party ruling coalition has a majority in parliament.
