Bill Fortier

Bill Fortier is the Alberta Bureau Chief for CTV NATIONAL 麻豆影视, based in Edmonton, contributing coverage of all stories of national and international interest from the province, including breaking news and features.
Fortier officially joined the CTV NATIONAL 麻豆影视 team in April 2021. Previously, he been a regular contributor to the newscast, filing reports regarding the 2019 federal election and the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortier was also a reporter, anchor, producer, and fill-in managing editor at CTV Edmonton for 13 years. He remains a member of the Alberta Legislature Press Gallery.
Throughout his career, Fortier has reported from the frontlines of the most notable stories in the region, including the Fort McMurray wildfire in 2016, the historic flooding in southern Alberta in 2013, and the devastating fire in Slave Lake in 2011.
Additional career highlights for Fortier include travelling to Turkey in 2017 to train Syrian journalists who escaped the war in their home country, producing a three-part documentary on those journalists鈥� efforts to tell the stories of the Assad regime鈥檚 human rights abuses, and covering exclusive footage of Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig鈥檚 military flight landing after they were freed from imprisonment in China.
Fortier鈥檚 documentary, 鈥淗eroes of Slave Lake鈥�, won the Edward R. Murrow Award for News Documentary, and the RTDNA Dave Rogers Award for Long Feature in a Large Market, in 2013.
Fortier grew up in Winnipeg, and is an avid hockey and Canadian football fan. His hobbies include travelling, woodworking, and playing music. Fortier speaks English and attempts to familiarize himself with different languages in every country he visits.
