KIBATI, Congo - Doctors are treating dozens of cholera cases at a refugee camp just outside Congo's eastern provincial capital of Goma.
Doctors Without Borders say they treated 13 new cases of cholera on Sunday and have seen 45 cases since Friday at the Kibati refugee camp. They say a shortage of water and latrines makes the outbreak "really dangerous."
Tens of thousands of refugees already have fled twice from Kibati in recent days, trying to avoid fighting between Congo's army and rebels led by a renegade general. Soldiers fired at rebels just down the road from Kibati on Friday.
Doctors say any more fighting could scatter infected patients and cause a cholera epidemic in eastern Congo.
