MONTMAGNY, Que. - Quebec Premier Jean Charest still wants to go ahead with the $750-million tax cut he announced during the recent provincial election campaign.
Charest said today that he hasn't changed his mind about lowering the tax burden for Quebec's middle class, and wants the cuts to be included in the budget that will be tabled in the provincial legislature.
The premier made the comments at the end of a two-day caucus meeting in Montmagny, Que., east of Quebec City.
Charest says he will deliver an inaugural speech when the new legislative session begins on May 8.
The premier says he's ready to collaborate with the opposition Action democratique du Quebec and the Parti Quebecois.
But he says the opposition can't just criticize without offering any solutions.
