KITCHENER, Ont. - The legacy of CFL star Bobby Kuntz will live on and hopefully help the lives of future athletes.
The Kuntz family decided to donate the former football player's brain to a study at Toronto General Hospital that's examining the effects of concussions on athletes.
Bob's widow, Mary, says researchers contacted the family shortly after he died on Feb. 7 to see if they were interested in making the donation.
She says part of the reason they agreed was to find out exactly what kind of effect the years of hard hitting had on her husband and the ailments and neurological conditions that developed in his later years.
While Bob was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, Mary says it was hard to find out exactly what dementia her husband was suffering from. She was told the only way would be through an autopsy.
The two-time Grey Cup winner with Hamilton was fearless on the field in the 1950s and '60s when concussions and other head injuries went mostly untreated and he hardly ever missed a game due to injury.
