OTTAWA - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has confirmed another case of mad cow disease in Alberta.
The Ottawa-based agency says bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or BSE, was discovered in a six-year-old dairy cow from Alberta.
It says no part of the carcass entered the human food or animal feed chains.
As with past cases, the CFIA has not revealed where in Alberta the animal came from, but does say the age and location of the infected cow are consistent with previous cases.
This is the 12th case of BSE in Canada since the first one was discovered in a cow from Alberta in May 2003.
The CFIA says the case will not affect Canada's surveillance and eradication program for mad cow disease.
