ALMATY, Kazkhstan - A privately-owned German jet has crashed and exploded while taking off from an airport in Kazakhstan's commercial capital of Almaty, killing one passenger and injuring three crewmembers.
Officials said the Canadian-built Challenger 604 had been on its way from Hannover, Germany, to Hong Kong and landed for refuelling at the Almaty airport.
While taking off early Wednesday, it veered off the runway and exploded.
Officials said two pilots and a flight attendant were injured and the single passenger on board died in the accident.
The passenger was not identified, and the reason for the crash was not immediately clear.
The Challenger 604, built by Bombardier, was introduced in 1996 and over 350 aircraft have been delivered worldwide.
