VANCOUVER -- The University of British Columbia is seeking a new creative writing chair following its high-profile firing of author Steven Galloway in June.

The university says in a job posting on its website that it is looking for a "supportive, collaborative leader who fosters an environment of inclusion and compassion for faculty, staff and students."

The posting says the expected start date is July 1 and the ideal candidate will have an international profile and experience in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate level.

Annabel Lyon and Linda Svendsen were appointed acting co-chairs of the program last November, when Galloway was suspended over what were only described as "serious allegations."

Galloway recently confirmed he was accused of sexual assault but said the only allegation that was substantiated was that he had a two-year affair with a student; the former student, however, has denied her complaint was about a "consensual affair."

The union that represents UBC faculty is grieving Galloway's firing and an arbitration is set to proceed in March.
