The man suspected of fatally shooting a Canadian reservist before storming Parliament Hill on Wednesday had a criminal record, documents show, with a string of convictions for petty crimes dating back to the early 2000s.
Michael Joseph Zehaf Bibeau, born in 1982, was killed Wednesday morning, after shootings at Ottawa鈥檚 National War Memorial and inside Parliament鈥檚 Centre Block.
The Canadian Press reported that the Quebec records appear under three different names: Michael Bibeau, Michael Zehaf Bibeau and Michael Bibeau Zehaf.
Court records show that Zehaf Bibeau was also charged with robbery in Vancouver in 2011. He was convicted on a lesser charge of uttering threats.
Zehaf Bibeau underwent a psychiatric assessment prior to that conviction and was found fit to stand trial, records also show.
Vancouver police did not provide details on Zehaf Bibeau鈥檚 case but confirmed that they are working with RCMP to assist with the investigations into the shootings in Ottawa.
Zehaf Bibeau had also applied for a passport, and there were concerns about his application.
An earlier version of this story Wednesday incorrectly reported that he was on a list of 鈥渉igh-risk travellers鈥 being tracked by Canadian authorities and had his passport seized.
