One of the young men charged in the brutal attack on Manitoba teen Rinelle Harper could be sentenced as an adult if convicted.
The Crown says it is seeking an adult sentence for the 17-year-old male, who can’t be named.
The teen appeared in youth court on Wednesday.
Rinelle Harper, 16, was discovered badly beaten and unconscious along the banks of the Assiniboine River by a passerby earlier this month.
Days after the attack, Justin James Hudson, 20, and the 17-year-old were arrested and charged in the vicious assault, as well as another attack on a 23-year-old woman that same night.
The pair has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault with a weapon.
Harper has been released from hospital, but is still recovering from the injuries sustained during the attack.
