More Canadians say they'd put themselves on Santa's 'nice list' than those who think Pope Francis deserves a spot on the list, according to a new poll.
An Ipsos Reid poll conducted for Â鶹ӰÊÓ found 90 per cent of the 2,535 respondents say they should be on the nice list. That's more than the 84 per cent who said Queen Elizabeth and the Pope, who was recently named Time's Person of the Year, should make the cut.
Topping the naughty list is embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, who's wrapping up a tumultuous year after admitting to having smoked crack cocaine since being elected to the city's top office.
Of those surveyed, 89 per cent said Ford deserved a spot on the naughty list.
When it comes to federal politicians, more Canadians said Prime Minister Stephen Harper should be on Santa's naughty list (62 per cent) than NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair (48 per cent), Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau (44 per cent) or Green Party Leader Elizabeth May (36 per cent).
Meanwhile, U.S. President Barack Obama seems to have done plenty of good deeds in 2013, according to respondents, with a whopping 76 per cent saying Obama should be on Santa's nice list.
Less than half of Canadians surveyed said their premier would likely find themselves on the nice list.
Respondents in Atlantic provinces were the most likely (52 per cent) to put their premier on Santa's nice list, followed by those living in Saskatchewan and Manitoba (44 per cent), Ontario (42 per cent), British Columbia (42 per cent), Alberta (37 per cent) and Quebec (36 per cent).
The actions of three senators involved in an ongoing and highly-publicized expense scandal landed them on the naughty list, according to the survey.
Of the three suspended senators, Patrick Brazeau, Pamela Wallin and Mike Duffy, the latter’s image seems to have been most impacted by the scandal, with 86 per cent of Canadians putting him on the naughty list. Wallin was picked by 83 per cent of respondents while 81 per cent said Brazeau deserved the distinction.
Canadian pop star Justin Bieber didn't appear to have a very nice 2013.
A string of controversies – some of which included attacking the paparazzi in London, abandoning a member of his entourage, Mally the monkey, in Germany and name dropping himself in a guest book at the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam – had 88 per cent of respondents putting Bieber on Santa's naughty list.
