EDMONTON -- The upcoming murder trial of an Edmonton armoured car guard accused of gunning down his crewmates will no longer by heard by a jury.
Travis Baumgartner is to have a trial instead before a judge alone when the case starts on Sept. 9.
A justice spokeswoman says Baumgartner's lawyer requested the change and the Crown agreed to it.
The G4S guards were working a night shift and reloading ATM machines at the University of Alberta when they were shot last summer.
Three died at the scene but a fourth survived.
Baumgartner was arrested the next day at the U.S. border with $334,000 in a backpack.
