Luka Magnotta appeared at a Montreal courthouse in person Thursday, not via video-link as originally planned.

The 29-year-old murder suspect made his first court appearance Tuesday through video, where he was formally charged with the first-degree murder of Concordia University student Jun Lin.

His lawyer Luc Leclair held a press conference outside the courthouse Tuesday where he said Magnotta鈥檚 defence team will not be making any comments about the case outside of court.

鈥淢r. Magnotta waived his rights to extradition because he wanted to come back to Montreal. He trusts the Canadian judicial system,鈥 said Leclair.

Crown spokesman Jean-Pascal Boucher said a 10-day hearing will begin in March 2013 before a judge and jury. Boucher said the nine months between charges being laid and the trial is a 鈥渘ormal delay鈥 in the court system.

鈥淭his court date is relatively soon for the availability of both counsels and the judge, the room.鈥

Initial reports suggest Magnotta鈥檚 defence team did not request a psychiatric evaluation.

Asked if Magnotta could request the evaluation at a later date, Boucher said he could not comment.

Boucher said he did not know where Magnotta is being detained.

Magnotta is also accused of mailing parts of Lin鈥檚 body to the Conservative and Liberal parties鈥 Ottawa headquarters and to two Vancouver schools.

Lin鈥檚 torso was found in a suitcase behind a Montreal apartment building last month.

Magnotta has pleaded not guilty.

Magnotta landed at Montreal's Mirabel Airport Monday aboard a military transport flight from Berlin. He was shackled and surrounded by heavy security.
