Five mysterious human-shaped figures appeared on the High Level Bridge in Edmonton on Sunday, attached to the wire barrier that faces out onto the North Saskatchewan River.
The life-sized figures, made of clear tape, appeared Sunday morning, with no clue as to who put them there or why. The figures appear to be climbing the barrier meant to stop people from jumping off the bridge.
鈥淚t reminded me of a bit like a ghost, like a ghost of the people that have lost their lives,鈥� Natasha Ridenour told CTV Edmonton. 鈥淢aybe that was kind of their purpose鈥� to bring awareness.鈥�
Sone people took to Twitter to express their worry that the tape figures could trigger traumatic memories for the families of those who have died by suicide from the bridge.
Other pedestrians and cyclists thought that the figures, jutting out over the sidewalk, took up too much space and posed a danger.
鈥淚 understand the impetus for it. If you wanted to climb over this you could,鈥� said Ragnar Ingibergsson.
Some people thought that the figures were some kind of protest, others guessed art installation, while a few could not figure out what kind of message the figures were sending.
鈥淚t鈥檚 cool. I don鈥檛 know what鈥檚 for鈥� but they鈥檙e interesting. Someone did a really good job on them,鈥� said James Rothwell.
Crews removed the mysterious figures at noon on Sunday.
