The federal government will invest more than $80 million in an aerospace engineering firm, which is expected to create up to 1,500 jobs in Ontario and Quebec, senior government sources tell Â鶹ӰÊÓ.
Industry Minister James Moore will announce details of the investment Monday morning at the Mississauga, Ont. office of Pratt & Whitney Canada, a Quebec-based company that designs and builds engines for different types of aircraft.
Senior government sources say the investment will create up to 1,500 well-paying jobs in manufacturing, research and development.
The announcement is expected to have a ripple effect in the aviation industry, benefitting 65 businesses.
The investment is being announced just days after disappointing November employment numbers were released, showing that the Canadian economy lost more than 10,000 jobs, most of them in Ontario.
