The daughter of a British Columbia couple jailed in China last year while on a business trip is calling on the Canadian government to take action and bring her parents home.

Lulu Island Winery owner John Chang and his wife Allison were arrested in China in March 2016 for allegedly underreporting the value of their wine, Chinese officials said. Chang, who suffers from health problems, has been in jail since his arrest.

Lu, who was released from jail in January, is prohibited from leaving China.

Chang and Lu immigrated to Richmond, B.C. in 1995 from Taiwan, and began making wine in 2007.

Their daughter, Amy Chang, says she is frustrated and is calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to intervene.

鈥淭hey鈥檝e done nothing wrong and (Trudeau) needs to have his attention on this,鈥 she told CTV Vancouver in an interview this week. 鈥淓specially when you鈥檙e talking about a free trade agreement (with China) in the future.鈥

She added: 鈥淚s Canada saying it鈥檚 OK to detain someone for a year?鈥

The couple is set to face a trial in China on Friday. Meanwhile their daughter is travelling to Ottawa next week with the hopes of arranging a face-to-face meeting with Trudeau.
