SAINT JOHN, N.B. -- Nearly all New Brunswickers left in the dark after an ice storm more than a week ago have had their power restored.
At one point today, about 70 customers remained without electricity in St. Stephen, though that number has been fluctuating.
NB Power says it hopes to have most customers reconnected by midnight.
About 50,000 customers lost electricity at the height of the ice storm as ice-laden trees snapped and pulled down power lines.
The Canadian Red Cross says their warming centres and shelters have all closed as there is no longer a demand for them.
Meanwhile, NB Power crews are also working to reconnect power to more than 1,000 customers who lost their electricity early today.
The utility says the hardest hit areas include Moncton, Sackville and the Tracadie area.
