Canadians are lending their support in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy with volunteers heading south to help with the relief efforts.
About a dozen Red Cross volunteers are travelling to New York and New Jersey, where they will be providing food, shelter and clothing, as well as addressing other needs.
鈥淚 want to do this. I want to be able to go and help,鈥� Lisa Landry, a Red Cross worker from Halifax, told CTV Atlantic.
Workers from Nova Scotia Power and New Brunswick Power have already been deployed.
Meanwhile, those who had travelled to New York to participate in the now-cancelled New York City Marathon are redirecting their efforts to help those affected by the storm.
Maritimer Sarah MacDonald said she will be joining other would-be marathon runners in delivering backpacks filled with non-perishables, diapers, toiletries, and other necessities to those in need in Staten Island.
The post-tropical storm left 105 dead in the U.S., including 41 in New York City.
Power outages affected more than 6 million residences and businesses nationwide.
While power is slowly being restored in New York, about 900,000 people remain without electricity.
