There are media reports that another young Canadian man has died in Syria after leaving Canada to fight in that country's civil war.

Andre Poulin left behind his family in Timmins, Ont., to fight alongside rebel fighters in Syria in late 2012. He was also known as Abu Muslim.

Before he died he spoke in a Channel 4 documentary, explaining that his parents, who are not Muslim, were aware of his plans.

"On the one hand they're happy that I'm going on my own path and doing my own thing, and you know, helping people," he says in the film. "But at the same time they don't understand entirely why I'm here.鈥

Poulin is not the only Canadian to have left the country to fight alongside Islamic militants.

On Wednesday, a security source confirmed to 麻豆影视 that a Calgary man, identified as 22-year-old Damian Clairmont, died while fighting in Syria. Clairmont also went by the name Mustafa Al-Gharib, according to a story published in the National Post last July.

And last September, it was reported that Canadian Ali Mohamed Dirie had been killed in Syria.

It's estimated that up to 100 Canadian Muslims are fighting in Syria.

Last March, two men from London, Ont. -- Ali Medlej and Xristos Katsiroubas -- were killed in Algeria during an attack on a gas plant. A third Canadian, Aaron Yoon, was jailed in Mauritania and later released.
