Nevaeh Denine, a 9-year-old girl who started a lemonade stand in St. John鈥檚, N.L., to raise money for fellow children with cancer, died on Monday.
Her family announced her death on Facebook in a that said Nevaeh had been 鈥渨elcomed into Heaven in her Daddy鈥檚 loving arms.鈥 Nevaeh鈥檚 father died from cancer before she was born
鈥淚t was a very peaceful, calm passing,鈥 Stephanie O鈥橞rien, Nevaeh鈥檚 best friend, told NTV. 鈥淪he was ready.鈥
The young girl who loved to sing was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a type of childhood cancer that affects the nervous system, shortly before her second birthday.
In 2014, Nevaeh started Nevaeh鈥檚 Lemonade Stand, which she and her mom, Holly, held each summer to raise money for other children suffering from cancer. She raised thousands of dollars for the cause.
鈥淭here was no complaining,鈥 O鈥橞rien said of Nevaeh鈥檚 battle with cancer. 鈥淭here was no poor me. She did what she had to do.鈥
There has been an outpouring of support following the announcement of Nevaeh鈥檚 passing, with hundreds of messages of condolence posted on social media and elsewhere.
Dwight Ball, the premier of Newfoundland, wrote in a that he was 鈥渉eartbroken to hear of Nevaeh Denine鈥檚 passing鈥 and was sending his condolences to her 鈥渇amily, friends and all those touched by her bright shining light.鈥
The mayor of St. John鈥檚, N.L., Danny Breen, that Nevaeh 鈥渢aught us all about courage, caring and love,鈥 adding that she was 鈥渁n inspiration to us all.鈥
鈥淪he was just super special,鈥 O鈥橞rien told NTV. 鈥淪he was like an angel on Earth and now she has her wings.鈥
