CFB TRENTON, Ont. - Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean was among those on the tarmac as the body of the latest Canadian soldier killed in Afghanistan arrived today at CFB Trenton in eastern Ontario.
Pte. Patrick Lormand was the victim of a roadside bomb Sunday southwest of Kandahar City.
Lormand, who was 21, was a member of the 2nd Battalion Royal 22nd Regiment based at CFB Valcartier near Quebec City.
He's the 130th Canadian soldier to die in the Afghan mission, which began in 2002.
Also on hand were Defence Minister Peter MacKay and Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Walt Natynczyk.
The body will be driven along the stretch of Highway 401 that has become known as the "Highway of Heroes" to the coroner's office in Toronto.
