LONDON - The premature baby of the first person in Britain to die of H1N1 flu has also died.
A Scottish government spokesman, who declined to be named in keeping with government policy, said Tuesday that the baby did not die from H1N1 flu.
The baby died Monday, one day after the death of his mother, 38-year-old Jacqui Fleming from Glasgow.
The government spokesman said Fleming had underlying health complications besides having H1N1 flu and being pregnant.
She had given birth to her son, Jack, two weeks before she died. The baby was born 11 weeks prematurely.
Health officials say flu viruses in general can have adverse impacts on pregnancy. They can lead to pre-term delivery, which is associated with various newborn health problems.
