A fourth person in B.C. has died from the H1N1 flu virus, pushing the total number of swine flu deaths in Canada to 65.
The Ministry of Health Services has released no details about the B.C. death except to confirm the victim, like the previous three, had underlying medical conditions.
A ministry release says the death occurred between Aug. 4 and Aug. 10 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, which stretches from the central B.C. coast south to Richmond.
The B.C. Centre for Disease Control says 676 people have tested positive for the H1N1 flu virus in the province, an increase of 42 cases since last week's update.
Officials say the majority of B.C. cases have been mild and tracking of the cases shows swine flu is spreading across the province in the same pattern as regular, seasonal flu.
The ministry says that means individual, confirmed cases of the virus will continue to be tracked but, in accordance with World Health Organization recommendations, next week's report, and all future H1N1 tallies, will including only severe, hospitalized cases and deaths.
