The largest bicycle industry trade show in North America, Interbike, wrapped up Friday at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in the US city of Las Vegas.
Here we round up some of the latest, most innovative helmets seen at the event which update this essential piece of cycling kit with the latest designs, features and technology.
Sena Smart Cycling Helmet
Already at the forefront of Bluetooth technology, Sena has debuted for the first time at Interbike the world's first smart bike helmet.
The innovative helmet combines a sleek and lightweight design with a Bluetooth communication system and QHD action camera, which will enable cyclists to talk to other riders, monitor their speed, cadence, and heart rate, listen to music, and even record up to two hours of video which can then be shared after the race using wifi.
Lumos
Start-up Lumos showed off its LED lit helmet at Interbike, designed to make cyclists feel and be safer when out on the road.
The helmet features bright white LED lights at the front and red at the back to provide over 80 lumens of light for visibility, and is also able to detect when cyclists are slowing down, automatically turning the red rear lights a solid color to warn drivers of your change in speed. To indicate when you are turning, the helmet also features lights on the right and left of the helmet, which can be controlled with a wireless remote on your handlebar.
Available to preorder now, Lumos is expected to ship in October.
Lazer Armor Pin
The update of Lazer's urban Armor helmet still features the helmet's unique head shape and Advanced Turnfit System for a comfortable ride, but you can now also customize your look with add-on accessories. The Armor Pin features molded push pins, allowing you to put on accessories for added style, or, for the more practical rider, a screen visor for extra protection. Added ventilation and chimney vents also ensure you'll stay cool during the ride.
