After a lenghty production cycle of almost 27 years, the Mazda MX-5 (formerly known as the Miata), has now reached one million units made, the company said late April.

The milestone MX-5, painted Soul Red, was built on April 22, 2016, and will be used by the automaker for special promotional purposes.

Its worldwide tour of Mazda enthusiast events begins in Hiroshima, Japan, where the MX-5 has been assembled in Mazda鈥檚 Ujina Plant since April 1989; and should hit Canadian shores by the end of the summer.
