TORONTO - A Toronto court is hearing how a man accused of having explosives ahead of the G20 summit was trying to expose security flaws.
In closing submissions, the defence described the 39-year-old Sonne as someone with a wide diversity of interests and the time to pursue them.
Items seized from his home show Sonne was deeply interested in chemistry, electronics, firearms and matters related to security.
While some of Sonne's hobbies and writings may make people uncomfortable, his lawyer argues that doesn't mean he was planning anything nefarious.
No bombs were found when Sonne was arrested days before the tumultuous summit in June 2010 but the Crown says he was going to build them.
He is charged with four counts of possessing explosives, and one count of counselling to commit mischief not committed.
