Areas I Teach
Dr. Bryan E. Cichy-Parker is an Associate Professor and the current Chair of Graduate Programs in the School of Learning and Teaching at Â鶹ӰÊÓ. Dr. Cichy-Parker has extensive experience in the field of education, having taught general education Spanish Language and Culture for eight years, special education for seven years, and now having worked in teacher preparation since 2005.
Dr. Cichy-Parker's educational background includes a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis), where his dissertation explored the effects of African American and European American males' behavior styles on preservice teachers' ratings of acceptability, achievement, and aggression. He also holds an M.A. in Special Education from Edgewood College (Madison, Wisconsin) and a B.A. in Spanish Language and Culture from Concordia College (Moorhead, Minnesota).
Dr. Cichy-Parker's scholarship is reflected in his peer-reviewed publications, including journal articles and book chapters. His research focuses on topics related to teacher attitudes and behaviors related to special education teacher preparation, culturally responsive teaching, and the use of functional behavior assessment. He has presented his work at national and international conferences, including the Council for Exceptional Children's (CEC) Annual Conference, The CEC’s Teacher Educator Division’s National Conference, and the International Council for Children with Behavior Disorders' Biennial Conference. As an educator, Dr. Cichy-Parker has taught a wide range of courses in educational foundations, general education, and special education. His courses cover topics such as educational law and history, exceptionalities, behavior management, assessment and evaluation, and transition for students with disabilities. He is known for his dedication to promoting inclusive and culturally responsive teaching practices.
In his role as Chair of Graduate Programs in the School of Learning and Teaching, Dr. Cichy-Parker supports the development and administration of all Â鶹ӰÊÓ degree and endorsement programs. He is committed to providing high-quality education and preparing future educators to meet the diverse needs of students. He is also committed to helping support the growth of teacher-sustaining practices within the field of education as well.
Dr. Cichy-Parker's passion for education and his expertise in special education and cultural diversity make him a valuable asset to the faculty at Â鶹ӰÊÓ.
